Frontier Christmas Set-up/ Dec. 1st Noon

November 19th, 2009 by bsorrell@windstream.net
I will be at the guild on Tuesday, December 1st, about noon, to decorate for Frontier Christmas and start getting setup.  This is the date that we had talked about before.  Could use some help from all of those that plan on showing their work.  We will also need some refreshments for Saturday and Sunday.  I will put a signup list on the table by the coffee pot tomorrow for those that plan to help set up and bring food.  Toby has also offered to put out signs in some places and needs some help with that.  Please , if you plan on participating chip in…many hands make light work. If you are not planning on participating we could still use extra hands with the other things. I will be at the guild tomorrow about 10:00 until at least noon.  My cell is 606.782.3348

Rotary Club Fund Raiser & ORVAG Art Show

November 19th, 2009 by bsorrell@windstream.net
The Rotary club will be holding their anual Fund Raiser, Purses for Purpose, on Friday, December 4th from 10a.m.-8:00p.m. and would like for guild members to be included if they would like.  There are a couple of things to consider before saying yes.  They are wanting 30-40 pieces total, so each would be bringing only a few.  There will be representatives from ORVAG there during the entire time, so we would divide up the time (10-8) between those wanting to participate, and 10% of sales will be donated to the Rotary club.  We will be able to set up a day or so before, if you wish, and Doug Hendrickson will be able to help with tables.  We will need to breakdown after 8.  The Christmas parade will take place around 6:00 that evening.  If you are interested in participating please let me know by sending an email or calling (606.782.3348) asap.   This would be a great place to have your work shown in Maysville and be a part of the big fund raiser for the Rotary Club.  I realize that Frontier Christmas is the next day and this is a busy time for everyone.    Please sign up at the Guild for Frontier Christmas or let me, know if you are planning on participating.
Thank you,
Dana Sorrell

Thursday October 29

October 27th, 2009 by Ken

First, thanks everyone who participated in the Big Read Art show. There was a good turnout, and everyone seemed impressed with all of the talent in our community.

I have to leave town Wednesday, and will not be able to moderate our monthly critique on our normal date and time, so let’s reschedule for Thursday, October 27 at 6pm.

This will also be a good opportunity to have the building open to the public so that anyone who missed the reception can still see the art show. Can someone let the teachers and students know that the building will be open until 7pmon thursday.

Betsy Baltzer has offered to be in the building for the Kentucky Arts Council Arts District Group’s visit and until critique. (1-6pm) If anyone else can be there, it would make it easier on her.

If you have not been to one of our critiques, Thursday will be a good time to start. Once a month, our local artists meet up to share and talk about their latest work. You don’t have to bring anything to enjoy the conversation. As an artist, I have found these meet ups a good opportunity to get advice on new work.

Please use the blog to leave a comment or ask a question about Thursday.

Show Setup

October 22nd, 2009 by Ken

As you know, all the entries are at the guild for our Edgar Allan Poe exhibit. Monday from 6-9, many people are going to visit our building for the first time. We need to make the best impression possible. It will be a good opportunity to show the community what kind of space they can expect to see when we move downtown to the Cox building.

If you have any work that you would like to display, please bring it Friday afternoon. Our art building should be filled with our artwork.

Later the next week, members of the Kentucky Arts Council, city of Maysville, Berea, and Horse Cave are going to visit our building. The KAC is one of our largest sources of funding. We need to look as good as possible and there are many ways you can help. BRING SOME ARTWORK TO DISPLAY, help with the lighting, straightening up/decorating, etc.

Sorry for the short notice. I will be at the guild tomorrow (Friday) somewhere between 1:30 and 2. If you can help, it will be appreciated. If you want to meet for lunch before , I will be at Margie’s Southern Café on Market street Friday at noon.

Claudia or Ken when and where can I pick up some cards? Sam says he will put together a piece for the paper. Should I try to get in whenever I can or do you want to see it first. Perhaps I can e-mail a copy to be shared, let me know.

set up for art auction

September 29th, 2009 by Ruvonna

Thanks to Donna for forwarding my e-mail I have had a good response so far folks have offered 15 tables and dozens of candle holders. We still need more tables, I am calling friends to see how many I can round up. I will bring the material to the next meeting to measure and cut. I may have to stash the tables in the basement until after the big read reception, but I think I can get the table cloths measured and cut the day of our board meeting. I may ask for a little help himing.
